Hey!

Just thought I'd contribute a bit by tossing in some random suggestions, because...why not? So, let's see what my brain can toss out at random, hurray!


1. Word count, leveling, points.
The current word count is 150+, which is alright especially since starting off, however I'm not sure about the whole point thing. Now, I'm just talking for myself here, others might really love it, which is perfectly fine, I just like quality over quantity. With that, I mean that it seems that you get points according to how many IC posts you make, each post being atleast 150 words. Which might in turn make people shorten their posts, or cut them and just turn it into two posts, seeing as that would be better for earning points. On the other hand, you might have people making large posts, but getting less points for it. So my suggestion would be the distribution of points by not how many posts, but how many words. For instance, one RP forum I still visit quite a bit has a weekly word count summit. They have a stat system worked up (every character has a "power level", aswell as having stats such as strenght, defence, agility and so on. There is a certain amount of words they haveto submit to increase that power level, for every time they increase it, they get stat points to spend into their stats, it's a whole system, not gonna go that deep into detail with it for now xD), basically they have a fixed day of the week, where every member submits all of their written words and they get points by how many words they have gotten, with a maximum cap every week so no one can shoot up into infinity in just a week.

The point of that is, to my current understanding, to stop people from posting those super-short messages that you come across in rp-forums every once in a while. No more, no less.

We had that same rule on the last site by this very same community and it didn't discourage people from posting massive posts. Hence I don't see it as a problem.

Also... I don't think I've met all too many writers who instantly lose their motivation in what they're writing just because they filled the necessary amount of words (unless they didn't have much to say at the time so they just posted lots of filler, of course).

Still, do keep posting your suggestions. Ideas are always welcome.

When I first started writing on a forum (which was MDA), I found it REALLY HARD to get to 150 words in some posts. I was in threads with people and there just wasn't any plot or anything. The key is setting up an idea with the other person you're rping with. And when threads die, let them die; don't try and keep at it. On my forums, if you stay long enough, You'll find 300 words is hard not to do. 

Bold statement aside, that's a great suggestion. Thing is I hate numbers and I hate making this about who has the most points. Character development is something that needs to take time anyway so regardless of our word count fluff, it doesn't matter. I don't think those who put forth more words should get any special treatment because I already expect that out of you for the 3 points per post. Those who only write 150 words will know they are taking more points than their effort deserves by watching others and then will grow and become more of a key player in plot. That's my strategy at least. ^_^

I like the 150+ count, simply because it gets your juices going in terms of searching for character personality and interaction. If it was all about the points, we wouldn't be doing this in the first place~.

The points are there so it feels like a reward, a stepping stone, and linear progress (when most of this rping world can be suspended in time) which keeps us coming back for more.

It also prevented people from making flaky characters, bad progression, and have more value to each character. Making it REALLY DIFFICULT to toss it aside. I loved it when Osamu in MDA progressed, and how I was able to think of the posts I had with her, and how she would evolve through those interactions: and not how I wanted her to be from day 1.

It also gave value when other characters other than mine progressed. I always loved reading Rei's advancements, and so many people had interesting voices in even a weapons progression that I wanted to remember them all, because some time down the line, your character and theirs would surely meet.

That's what I think the 150+ posts are worth keeping, and that's why I like the point system.

To expand upon it, I would love it if there was shops to purchase pre-existing mechanics, tech, and magic items, so the custom-made ones would be thought of as more powerful~ That way, mods don't have to approve of 10 different things that are already similar to another bloke's.

That way you can purchase it with little points, and it would give a real value system to those who own shops. 1 point for 5 meals would just about do it in a food shop, and you can purchase books with X amount of knowledge you need for making certain things.

I even read a character history on Quinn that he was searching for technology to bring back home, that would definitely help in his quest. It would also give the "quest section" the feeling of a real job~~
