  • Shikoku

Shikoku is Japan's smallest island by size and population. It is the only island to not have any known active volcanoes, and is mountainous just like Kyushu. Residing south of Honshu, and to the east of Kyushu, it holds a desirable climate, and known for many of it's cascading rivers. In the northern half of the island, many fruits, like persimmons and grapes are grown, and crops such as barley and wheat are commonplace during the winters. It is sparsely populated by humans and ayakashi alike. In the mountains, mining is commonplace, due to the abundance of natural ores compared to the other three islands. It's largest mountain, Mount Ishizuchi, is also the source of it's largest river, The Yoshino. Unhappy about the foriegners and their behavior, Shikoku has opted to close its borders and ports to foreign trade and activity, keeping them out as much as possible.

  • Kyushu

Kyushu is the second smallest island of Japan. As japan's most southern island, it holds a subtropical environment, as well as more exotic species of flora and fauna. Kyushu is know for it's very mountainous southern half, with many of them holding active volcanoes. The island harbors the most active volcano of Japan, Mount Eso. Due to these not so favorable living conditions, most of the population resides in the northwest of the island, and is widely known for their extravagant porcelain. Kyushu's most distinguishing feature is it's abundance of mud and hot springs all over the island, making Kyushu a popular destination spot for vacations and newly weds.

  • Honshu

The largest island in Japan, slightly larger than Great Britain, Honshu is the Japanese mainland, and the center for most Ayakashi activity. Most Daimyo also reside here. More infrastructure is stationed here, and besides the run of the mill village here or there, Honshu is riddled with lots of bustling cities and towns, larger than your standard village. It is the most heavily populated of the four islands, and with that comes the consequential rise in Ayakashi presence. Along with Mount Fuji, an active volcano and Honshu, and in general, Japan's highest point, the Japanese Alps run the length of the island. The island's weather resembles most other temperate climates, but along with the other islands, it is a major hot spot for seismic activity.

  • Hokkaido

Japan's second largest island, Hokkaido lies to the north of Honshu. On the island lies the capital of Sapporo, it's largest city. While Hokkaido has a few active volcanoes, they aren't as large as Mount Fuji. The climate of Hokkaido is more dry than the rest of the islands, and is know to reach temperatures in the negatives quite commonly during it's winters. It is more common to find beings such as Yuki Onna here.
